Andrew Mason has been appointed as the newest East Anglia-based partner at audit, tax and consulting firm RSM.
Mason has spent a majority of his 25-year career in the Cambridgeshire market, working with mid-tier firms across a wide range of organisations. He has experience in a variety of sectors, and has technical expertise in both audit and assurance.
“Cambridge is a dynamic and fast-growing market, and I am very excited to be joining a firm and team that is so ambitious for the city and region,” Mason said. “I look forward to helping local entrepreneurs and businesses to capitalise on this growth and bringing the best of RSM to the market.”
Global advisory firm Duff & Phelps has welcomed Marcus Morton and Albert Maass as managing directors within the firm’s London-based Valuations Advisory Services practice.
In his role, Morton will focus specifically on the financial services sector, bringing with him over 25 years of experience in investment banking, and many years within risk management, compliance and valuation opinions. Prior to joining the firm, he worked at KPMG, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan and Barclays, among others.
Maass will work within the UK-based Financial Instruments and Technology business unit, focusing on institutional investors and asset managers with worldwide illiquid portfolios. He brings 30 years of experience with risk and investment management, spread across the UK, the Americas and Asia. Most recently, he was a managing director at Edelscourt Ltd.

Automated tax software provider Avalara has welcomed Simon Kelly as its new vice president of sales for its EMEA business.
Working out of the UK, Kelly will be responsible for Avalara’s growth in EMEA, and brings with him over two decades of sales and management experience at companies like Vodafone, Microsoft and LinkedIn.

We look forward to benefiting from his experience as well as his passion for developing and nurturing his teams as we continue to rapidly grow across the region.”
Accountancy firm BHP has appointed Joanne Powell as its newest tax partner, where she will work across the firm’s Leeds and Cleckheaton offices.
Powell joins the firm with a combined 16 years of experience from KPMG and Grant Thornton, and specialises in mid-market business and tax. Throughout the years, she has also gained experience on mergers, acquisitions and insolvency tax.
Hamish Morrison, Joint Managing Partner at BHP, said: “Joanne brings with her a wealth of experience and will be a great addition to our growing team. Joanne boosts our tax team to 57, making it one of the largest in the region.”
The Simmons Gainsford Group has appointed Darren Hersey as its newest senior partner, promoting him from the partner role he has held since 1998.
Since joining the firm in 1992, Hersey has developed a tax specialty and high value transactions advisory. Additionally, he heads up the Group’s private client team, which looks after high net worth individuals, non-doms and trusts while providing advice on taxes.
Speaking on his appointment, Hersey said: “As we had towards the New Year, our focus will be more outward looking and I am very much looking forward to working with my colleagues at all levels to provide great service and support to all our clients.”
Joining the company from Mazars, Narinder Sandher has come aboard at accountancy and business advisory firm Beever and Struthers as an internal audit director.
Sandher will work to develop the firm’s national internal audit services alongside the existing team, and continue to strengthen the services it offers to the not-for-profit sector.
