THE ACCA’S head of public sector policy has defected to rival instititute CIPFA.
Gillian Fawcett, who has managed public sector-focused policy for ACCA over the past six years, has taken on the new role heading up CIPFA’s nascent ‘governments faculty’.
Fawcett will lead a team of policy specialists to develop CIPFA’s thinking, policy influence and support for finance professionals working within the global government sector.
Her appointment comes as CIMA and the AICPA have announced plans to better promote management and public accounting globally, through a new association.
CIPFA chief executive Rob Whiteman said Fawcett would be a great asset in a “pivotal role”. “Gillian’s extensive experience and expertise across accountancy, public sector policy, audit and governance will be invaluable as we work to maximise CIPFA’s reach and effectiveness with governments around the world,” he said.
In 2005 Fawcett was seconded to parliament as head of finance of the Scrutiny Unit, responsible for providing professional support to a wide range of select committees. She was appointed to the editorial boards of the Guardian Public Leaders Network and the Financial Management and Accountability Journal.
Fawcett’s appointment is the second boost to CIPFA’s faculty leadership in recent weeks, with Jane Payling joining in September as head of the Health and Integration Faculty after more than 20 years working in NHS finance.
