Milan Mandaric lambasts the CPS and HMRC over tax charges brought against him
Portsmouth Football
Club’s former chairman has described criminal tax charges laid
against him as “totally ridiculous”.
Milan Mandaric defended himself against charges of cheating the public
revenue, relating to an offshore payment to former Portsmouth manager Harry
Redknapp, reported
the
Guardian.
He claimed that the Crown
Prosecution Service’s investigation revolved around £10,000 of
unpaid tax, and the transaction was nothing to do with football.
“The cost and expense [of the investigation, which started in April 2007] and
all this aggravation and unfairness is far more than £10,000 that someone will
have to pay,” he said in the paper.
“There is no correlation between the two. I just hope that one of these days
someone will wake up and say ‘What the hell is going in here?’ And I know that
will happen because there is no wrongdoing here.”
