Foreign office pips Revenue in web league
The Inland Revenue has fallen behind the Foreign Office as the most searched for government website, according to search engine msn.co.uk.
Figures for the week ending 15 October show the Foreign Office had come from nowhere to become the 10th most searched term on Microsoft’s UK search engine, with the Inland Revenue one place behind, followed by the FBI, also making its debut appearance on the MSN top 20.
The Revenue had previously held on to the top government spot, but recent activities in Afghanistan and the Middle East has shifted the public interest from taxes to the ongoing fight to rid the world of terrorists.
Still the Revenue managed to pip, among others, kids TV idols the Tweenies, rock band Oasis, football giants Manchester United and Liverpool and crooner Robbie Wiliams.
Other new entries in the list included ‘Anthrax’ at number two and ‘tube strikes’ at number five.
