Hacker Young to review equal ops policy
Mid-tier firm Hacker Young is set to review its equal opportunities policy after paying a £5,000 out of court settlement to a former secretary.
The London-based firm, number 24 on the Accountancy Age top 50, paid the sum to Elizabeth Nunn after she resigned from her job after it was changed from part-time to full-time while she was on maternity leave.
The Equal Opportunities Commission said Nunn settled out of court after no suitable alternative position had been forthcoming from the firm, according to the FT
However the firm said it offered Nunn a part-time job which had been agreed before she left for her maternity leave.
The settlement comes as a government taskforce on flexible work is examining replacing existing rights to work part-time under the Sex Discrimination Act, with a report due out in November. The taskforce is also looking rights for parents to work flexible hours.
A spokesperson for Hacker Young was unavailable for comment.
