Queen's Birthday Honours - Lord Mayor is among accountants honoured

Accountants figured prominently in the Queen's birthday honours,writes Sinead Carew.

Roger Cork FCA

Cork, Lord Mayor of London since last November and son of the late Sir Kenneth Cork, was knighted for his services to the City of London and for public service. Cork is a senior insolvency partner at Moore Stephens Booth White.

Hugh Sykes CA

Sykes was awarded a knighthood for services to business and for charitable services. He is the chairman of Sheffield Development Corporation.

Angus Grossart CA

Grossart, former chairman of the National Galleries of Scotland, was knighted for his services to the arts. He is chairman and managing director of merchant bank Noble Grossart.

Eugene McGivern

McGivern was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) for public service for his role as director of the Personal Tax Division of the Inland Revenue.

Richard Lapthorne FCMA FCCA

Lapthorne, finance director of British Aerospace, was made a CBE for services to the aerospace industry. Lapthorne joined British Aerospace in 1992 following a nine-year career with Courtaulds.

Brian Tanner CPFA

Tanner was awarded a CBE for his role as chief executive of Somerset County Council.

Keith Bridge CPFA

Bridge was given a CBE for services to education as chairman of the Education Assets Board.

David Snell FCMA

Snell was awarded a CBE. He is director of finance and corporate services and deputy chief executive at the Royal Mint.

Richard Lane FCA

Lane, managing partner at BDO Stoy Hayward in Bromley, was given an OBE for services to the local business community.

Christopher Carr

Carr was awarded an OBE for his work as audit manager of the National Audit Office.

Brian Charles CPFA

Charles, managing director of Welsh Water, was awarded an OBE for services to the water industry.

Alistair Iain Macdonald

Macdonald received an OBE for services as adviser in the Revenue’s Financial Intermediaries and Claims office.

Valerie Fone FCA

Fone was awarded an MBE for her role as chief accountant on the Central Board of Finance for the Church of England.

Alan Marks CPFA

Marks was awarded an MBE for his role as the finance and business manager at the National Grid.

Vernon Edwards CPFA

Edwards was awarded an MBE for his services to the community in his role as town clerk in Caldicot, Monmouthshire.
