EY has promoted 675 employees to partner level globally, with assurance adding greater volumes than other service lines.
It represents a 33% increase on last year’s promotions and is the largest number of partner appointments in the firm’s history. More than a third – or 253 – of the appointments were assurance roles, while 27% (183) were in tax and a quarter (159) in advisory service lines.
More than a third (35% or 237 partners) were promoted in the Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA) region, marking the largest regional growth with a 46% increase on 2013. The Americas added 295 partners to member firms, up 23% from last year, while Asia-Pacific promoted 115, a year-on-year climb of 44%. Japan boosted its partner numbers by 28, just one more than 2013’s figures.
Just over a quarter (26%) of promotions globally went to women. However, there were stark regional differences, with the Americas and Asia-Pacific (around 30%) appointing more females than EMEIA (20%) and Japan (10%).
EY global chairman and CEO Mark Weinberger (pictured) said the promotions represent the strength of candidates coming through the organisation and the firm’s confidence in growth of its business and its clients’ organisations.
Last month, Deloitte announced 65 partner promotions in the UK, marking its largest expansion in senior roles in a decade.
