Veteran anti-IR35 campaigners, the Professional Contractors Group, are upbeat and confident after the Court of Appeal heard their appeal against the controversial tax legislation.
Susie Hughes, spokeswoman for the group told AccountancyAge.com: ‘The appeal concluded on a high note.’
She added: ‘We put forward a strong case with sound arguments that proved IR35 is contrary to European law.’
According to Hughes, the appeal, which began on Tuesday, concluded on time, although no date had yet been set for a ruling. ‘A judgement on the matter could come either before or after Christmas,’ she said.
The conclusion of the hearing is the second time the PCG has taken its campaign to the British Courts. In April a High Court judge ruled against the PCG, and in favour of the Revenue.
The campaigners have vowed to take the case all the way to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, if necessary, in order to get the legislation abolished.
The Revenue says it will continue to defend the legislation.
