Students face institute fee hike

The Chartered Accountant Students Society of London – which serves 5,000students – said the institute is considering increasing membership fees andshifting payment away from firms.
Additionally, the institute has discussed increasing the current membership fee to £100.
Meanwhile, CASSL officials have expressed frustration at being told that theissue was to be removed from yesterday’s council meeting agenda. It will now bediscussed in August.
Niru Shah, accountant at CASSL, said: ‘There is a risk some students may not beable to afford to pay the fee, and others may be put off joining.’
Christine Stocker Gibson, ICAEW’s head of emerging, provisional and new members services, said: ‘It was hoped the issue would go to council this week, but it was felt extra consultation was needed.’
