HMRC: avoidance costs UK £10bn a year

Government puts figure on the problem for the first time

The government has disclosed that tax avoidance costs the UK £10bn a year.

The number is thought to be the first time HM Revenue & Customs has put a
figure on the issue.

The number will emerge tonight when a special Money Programme on tax
avoidance airs on BBC2.

The programme focuses on the world of tax avoidance, discussing schemes
ranging from Employee Benefit Trusts to partnership loans, used by partners in
accounting firms.

‘No Tax Please, We’re Rich’ is broadcast tonight at 10pm on BBC2.
