As relatives, friends and colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic tried to come to terms with the unprecedented attacks on the US last week, it emerged that five PwC employees, all US citizens, had been among those who died in the hijacked planes.
New York’s World Trade Centre was destroyed by two civilian aircraft which were deliberately crashed into the 110 storey twin towers last week. The Pentagon in Wasington was also hit by a plane and a further aircraft was crashed 80 miles south-east of Pittsburgh.
Deloitte & Touche’s main New York office in the World Financial Centre buildings was destroyed when the adjacent World Trade Centre collapsed.
News of PwC’s loss comes as the New York Stock Exchange reopened today. The Dow Jones, the leading index of US shares, fell 100 points in early trading, though it is hoped shares will rally later today.
