S&W boosts northern audit team with experienced KPMG hire

S&W has appointed Chris Vaulks as a partner in its audit practice, expanding the firm’s capabilities in the technology, construction, and manufacturing sectors.

Vaulks joins from KPMG, where he spent more than 18 years, progressing to a senior director role within the firm’s northern audit practice covering Newcastle, Leeds, and Manchester.

During his tenure, he led audits for several FTSE AIM 50 companies and large private businesses in his specialist sectors. He was recognised as North East Accountant of the Year at the North East Accountancy Awards in 2017 and is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) with the ICAEW.

Based in S&W’s Newcastle office, Vaulks is expected to bolster the firm’s audit services across the region. He brings experience in client relationship management and audit delivery, with a focus on high-quality assurance work.

“I’m delighted to join S&W at such an exciting time following the recent investment from Apax Partners,” Vaulks said. “As the fastest growing UK top ten accountancy firm, there is a real sense of drive and ambition alongside a clear commitment to Newcastle and the north. I’m looking forward to bringing my skills and experience to support and grow our audit practice in a region I am passionate about.”

Donna Bulmer, S&W’s Regional Managing Partner, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Chris Vaulks to S&W. He brings a wealth of audit experience, along with a proven track record of driving growth. Chris’ insights and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to execute our regional growth strategy and strengthen our position in the market.”

Mark Bishop, Head of Audit and Assurance at S&W, added:

“His deep sector expertise, particularly across technology, construction and manufacturing, combined with his leadership experience, will be instrumental as we continue to grow our audit practice. Chris’s appointment reflects our commitment to investing in top talent and strengthening our presence across the north. I’m confident he will make a significant impact for our clients and our people.”

Vaulks’ appointment marks the latest step in S&W’s expansion strategy in the North East, following Apax Partners’ recent investment in the firm, which is intended to support growth and the recruitment of senior audit and advisory talent.
