UK pensions director joins Deloitte

Deloitte has appointed a new London-based director within the UK pensions business, marking the third senior hire within the department in recent months.

Sankar Maahalingham will specialise in pensions advice and work to expand the firm’s pensions consulting activity. He brings over 20 years of advisory and pension experience to the role, most recently from his position at XPS Pensions Group.

Mark McClintock, partner and head of pensions at Deloitte, said: “Sankar is an experienced and well respected figure in the pension industry. His appointment is the third made recently to the team, highlighting our commitment and investment to the pension market and the importance we place on delivering high quality services.”

Sayer Vincent welcomes tax manager

Charity-focused audit and consultancy firm Sayer Vincent has appointed Gillian McKay as senior tax manager.

McKay previously spent five years at Sayer Vincent before moving onto charity-focused work with the ICAEW and a finance position at Imperial College Healthcare Charity. In her new position, she will report to Fleur Holden.

Speaking on her return, McKay said: “I have always been interested in tax and took my tax exams back in 2010 whilst I was senior audit manager at Sayer Vincent. I am delighted to return in a senior tax role and I’m looking forward to working with charities and helping them address all their tax needs.”

Cooper Parry hires corporate finance specialist

Cooper Parry Corporate Finance has appointed Sachin Parmar as corporate finance manager, capitalising on his recent experience in M&A at Mazars CF and RSM.

Parmar said: “Every day presents a new challenge; unique opportunities to make a difference for business owners during what’s usually one of the most important decisions of their lives.

VPG elects new president

VAT Practitioners Group (VPG) has appointed Wedlake Bell tax partner Michael Ridsdale as its president, succeeding Michael Conlon QC.

The VPG, which operates as an association of UK VAT specialists from varied industries and professions, holds 20 chapters across the UK. Ridsdale’s appointment will help guide how the VPG responds to VAT consultations and approaches HMRC on behalf of its members.

Ridsdale said: “The VPG is the only independent organization dedicated to VAT and I’m honoured to have been appointed as its president. I am looking forward to taking an active role in its future growth and ensuring it continues to meet the needs of its members.”

Quantuma welcomes Brighton partner

Advisory firm Quantuma appointed Elias Paourou as a partner in its Brighton office, expanding the firm’s presence in the South.

Paourou joins the firm from CVR Global, where he held a partner position, and brings nearly 30 years of industry experience to his new role.

In the Brighton office, he will work alongside restructuring partners Maxine Reid and Sean Bucknall, with an initial focus on advising owner-managed businesses.

Carl Jackson, managing partner at Quantuma, said: “Elias has a track record of delivering great outcomes for distressed businesses and their stakeholders.
