DAVID GAUKE has been promoted to financial secretary to the Treasury in David Cameron’s reshuffle, a year ahead of the general election.
Gauke’s tenure as Exchequer secretary to the Treasury has been characterised by moves to tackle tax leakage through avoidance and evasion and working to make Britain more attractive to business.
He will continue his tax work in his new role.
Chancellor George Osborne tweeted he is “V pleased that @DavidGauke promoted to Financial Secretary in the Treasury – he’s been a huge support to me for past 4 years”.
Gauke said on Twitter: “Delighted (a) to continue with current tax role in the Treasury and (b) to do so at Minister of State level as Financial Secretary.”
