ICAEW hires KPMG’s Armstrong to support regions

A SENIOR KPMG adviser has been recruited by the ICAEW to drive its growth in burgeoning regions.

Michael Armstrong, who has headed audit for the Big Four firm in the Lower Gulf region since 2005, has joined the institute as regional director for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA).

His role will include driving engagement across the regions, supporting members encouraging governments to build strong accountancy organisations and advise on public finance matters.

“ICAEW is already recognised as a strong champion of national professions evidenced by its capacity-building work in Africa, working in partnership with national organisations to help strengthen the profession,” said Armstrong.

“The accountancy and finance profession underpins business confidence, public financial management and economic growth worldwide, and it is an excellent time to be taking up the regional director role.”

Armstrong joined KPMG in 1978 and qualified with the ICAEW in 1982. He served in KPMG’s Oman office in 1985, becoming a partner in 1988, and has also worked in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
