ICAS members knighted in Queen's Birthday Honours List

Amyas Morse and Ewan Brown knighted

TWO ICAS MEMBERS have been knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Amyas Morse (pictured), comptroller and auditor general at the NAO, has been knighted for services to parliament and public sector audit. Sir Amyas took on the role in June 2009, having held a number of senior roles with PwC and then the Ministry of Defence.

Ewan Brown, chairman of Scottish Financial Enterprise and senior governor at the University of St Andrews, was knighted for services to business and public life and philanthropy in Scotland. He qualified with ICAS while at Peat Marwick Mitchell, before joining Noble Grossart in 1969. He served at Noble Grossart for 35 years as an executive director. Among his many other roles, Brown is a non-exec at Lloyds TSB.

Stephen Egan, deputy chief executive and director of finance and corporate resources at the Higher Education Funding Council for England, was awarded an OBE.

Phillip Sheldon, force strategic finance manager at the Derbyshire Constabulary, was awarded an MBE for services to police finance.

Rosemary Winter-Scott, chief executive of the accountant in bankruptcy, was awarded a OBE for public service to Scottish insolvency services and voluntary service to education through Jordanhill School.

Several HMRC staff members were also honoured. Sheila Finch, specialist personal tax at HMRC, was awarded an MBE for services to tax compliance and voluntary service to young people in Greater Manchester.

Sandar Wemyss, senior officer in HMRC’s fiscal crime office, was awarded an MBE for services to tackling non-compliance.

Salim Mitha, lately deputy director, policy specialist at HMRC, was awarded a CBE for services to tax policy work.
