DELOITTE’S public sector internal audit unit is to be acquired by Mazars in the New Year.
The unit provides internal audit services to London and South East-based government and health organisations.
The deal will see 120 specialist staff move to Mazars.
Mike Clarkson, managing director of Deloitte Public Sector Internal Audit condoned the move because the two companies “share a commitment to high quality public sector internal audit”.
A Deloitte spokesperson said the reason for the sale was that Mazars has a growth ambition in the internal audit market, especially for local government and local health economy.
Gareth Davies, Mazars head of public services said the deal showed it is: “Committed to maintaining the high standards of client service and technical quality they are used to.”
“The team brings extensive and valuable experience, and both clients and staff will be reassured to know that this is a strategic growth area for Mazars.”
Last year Mazars won a five year contract worth £3.7m from the Audit Commission, which dished out its audit work to external firms. The deal saw the firm serve 34 public sector councils such as NHS primary care trusts, police and rescue authorities.
