AN EXPERIENCED ACCOUNTANT, who had served as Wrexham FC’s chief executive, has been jailed for 16 months after admitting fraud at one of his previous businesses.
Paul Retout, 53, admitted to submitting false invoices while as a partner at Quadrangle Group between 2007 and 2008.
The ICAEW-qualified accountant had started at the group as a financial controller in 1989, reported the BBC. He left Wrexham in 2010.
His “chaotic” family life led to him making claims for work that had not been undertaken. He had shown remorse for his actions, Judge Nicholas Jones said at Kingston Crown Court. Retout has also made a part-repayment of the defrauded money.
Retout is listed as a principal of Tax By Return, an accountancy firm based in north Wales. He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1984 and joined a merchant bank in 1986 as FD.
