Email scam offers a tax refund - if you email back your bank details
An email scam was sent to thousands of people prior to the self assessment
tax filing deadline.
Email recipients were told they were eligible for a tax refund and needed to
fill in a form with their bank details. Information passed on was then used to
clear out bank accounts, reported
the
BBC.
HMRC
said that it would never use email, telephone calls or external companies to
inform of a refund.
Around 20,000 emails were sent out in the last week.
