PwC boosts sustainability practice
Head of global sustainability issues says the firm has "no competitor" when it comes to environmental advisory services
Head of global sustainability issues says the firm has "no competitor" when it comes to environmental advisory services
PricewaterhouseCoopers has recruited Dr Celine Herweijer, a climate change
scientist to lead the firms risk modelling and adaption in the sustainability
division.
Herweijer will work with all companies to identify threats and opportunities
arising from climate change.
She has previously worked with the United Nations in New York leading the
analysis in water and energy. She is also advisor to the World Economic Forum.
Ian Powell, chairman and senior partner PwC, said: “Less than 100 days to
Copenhagen climate change summit, business is waking up to the fact that climate
change is too important to be left to policy makers and government alone, and
PwC is in a unique position to make a difference.”
The move compliments the recent promotion of Malcolm Preston, formerly head
of the UK’s climate change practice, to global head of sustainability and
climate change.
He joined the firm in 1983 and has been partner since 1996 advising large
clients on audit and due diligence.
Preston, who has an oceanography degree, told Accountancy Age that
at the moment there was no “competitor to PwC” and that the firm will “have the
market on environmental advisory services.”
