Anthony, the Latin music superstar – and husband of Jennifer Lopez – owes
$2.5m (£1.26m) in back taxes and fines after his accountant and manager both
confessed to tax crimes.
Anthony’s book keeper Philip Sarna and his manager (and brother), Bigfram
Zayes, who managed his three companies, both pleaded guilty to tax crimes in a
plea deal reached with Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, according
to Reuters.
But between 2001 and 2004, Anthony and his manager failed to pay taxes on
$15.5m of income, according to the
District
Attorney’s office.
‘Anthony has not been charged, but must pay the $2.5m by 1
June,’ DA Morgenthau said: ‘He thought that he could rely on his manager and his
accountant.’
Sarna and Zayes will be sentenced on 12 and 13 June respectively to a
conditional discharge, dependent upon their payment of all taxes owed. The men
will also pay a criminal fine of $50,000 each.
