Gurkhas finally receive national insurance benefits
Gurkhas finally rewarded for nine decades of fighting in the British army
Soldiers in the Brigade of Gurkhas – which has fought for the UK since 1815 –
will finally receive national insurance benefits from the UK government.
HM Revenue & Customs confirmed this week that the Gurkhas had been
brought within the scope of UK income tax and national insurance rules. As a
result of the change, Gurkhas can now establish entitlement to pensions and
other benefits from national insurance contributions dating back to the year
2000, according to an MoD spokeswoman.
There are 3,400 Gurkhas fighting in the British army.
