Shareholders nearly block £5m ‘golden goodbye’

Shareholders for FTSE100 fund management company Amvescap almost forced an
embarrassing defeat for its plans to hand out a £5m ‘golden goodbye’ to chairman
Charlie Brady.

The resolution for the payout narrowly went through yesterday at the
company’s AGM, by 51.6% to 48.4%.

The reward, for steering the company through difficult times, had caused
concern among shareholder lobby groups the Association of British Insurers and
the National Association of Pension Funds, reported The Times.
