Baker Tilly facing client action

Law firm Pinsent Masons says it is considering possible legal proceedings
against its former tax adviser, Baker Tilly after HM Revenue & Customs
launched an investigation into a suspected underpayment of taxes by Masons.

Partners at the firm have been formally notified of alleged accounting
errors, The Lawyer reported.

In a statement, international operations manager Tony Bunch said: ‘Pinsent
Masons is currently in the process of resolving a historical issue regarding
accounting errors and a subsequent tax underpayment. The tax advisers during the
period in question were made aware of the errors. Due to possible legal
proceedings we’re not in a position to comment further.’

Alleged errors were revealed in 2003 when Masons switched from Baker Tilly to
its current auditor, Deloitte.

The law firm is currently working with HMRC to resolve the issue.

The Lawyer reported that Baker Tilly could not be reached for
