Six million tax credit claimants will receive ‘renewal packs’ over the next few weeks to make sure they receive the right payment for the current tax year.
The Revenue’s computer systems will once again be put under enormous pressure as millions of changes are recorded.
A spokesman for the Public and Commercial Services Union told BBC Online that morale was low at the department following the Budget, which dropped the bombshell that 10,000 jobs will be cut over the next few years.
Should a repeat of last year’s debacle be experienced, it could prove catastrophic for the Revenue. Graham Steel, union leader at the PCS, said: ‘I don’t think our members will be as tolerant as last year’.
