Broadbent, who is leaving Customs on 30 July, has been named as a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath and will carry the initials ‘KCB’ after his name.
Joining him with the same honour is John Gant, director of finance, at the Inland Revenue.
The award honours service of the highest calibre in the carrying out of military and civic duties.
Last week Accountancy Age exclusively revealed that Broadbent was on the verge of joining FTSE-100 property giant Land Securities, parent company to a former bidder for the PFI contract to run 600 Customs and Inland Revenue properties.
