Taking Stock – False pride or smokescreen.

Bournemouth was witness to some neat footwork last week at the CIPFA national conference.

Tory vice-chairman and one-time candidate for London mayor, Steve Norris, wasted no time in distancing himself for the Conservatives’ dismal showing in the general election.

A latter-day Pontius Pilate, Norris washed his hands of the whole sorry affair. Having decided to call it a day before the previous general election ‘to spend more time with his money’, Norris sought to bond with the throng by describing how he was once called a ‘greedy capitalist bastard’ by Ken Livingstone. ‘It is a badge I wear with pride,’ he declared. Probably the only thing a Tory can be proud of at the moment.
