Christine Freshwater has been appointed to replace John Roberts as managing partner of Chantrey Vellacott DFK from 1 February, becoming the first woman to head up a top-twenty accountancy practice.
Freshwater, who was already a member of the firm’s management team, has taken responsibility at various times for finance, human resources, and the development of the firm’s IT systems.
Roberts said: ‘In this the first year of a new millennium, I am delighted to be handing on to Christine Freshwater. Her experience will enable her to build on the firm’s existing reputation of creating value for clients.’
Freshwater said: ‘E-business is impacting on all sectors of the economy from booksellers to supermarkets, and the accountancy profession will not be exempt. Opportunities will present themselves to firms like mine; my intention is for our people to take these opportunities to provide solutions of value to our clients.
‘I also intend to build on the firm’s existing position as a leading independent firm, by growing organically and via merger.
