Coopers frozen out of Arts Council
Arts Minister Mark Fisher signalled the end of Coopers & Lybrand’s ties with the Arts Council last week.
He told the Music Publishers Association annual general meeting that cuts in red tape and bureaucracy would be coupled with cuts in spending on consultants.
Fisher said Coopers ‘gets an awful lot of money when it shouldn’t’. He added that consultancy projects worth ‘several million pounds’ were under review.
At stake is Coopers’ lucrative contract to design and implement a pilot project that will distribute National Lottery funds through the Arts Council to community art projects.
Coopers said it was not aware of any plans to cut the scheme.
