Institute warns against CIMA defection threat
The English ICA is urging maverick BCAB member Adrian Ould not to carry out his threat to arrange ‘a free passage’ for business members to rival institute CIMA.
Ould, a leading member of BCAB’s management board and chief finance officer at Pan European Textiles, told Accountancy Age last week he was outraged by Peter Gerrard’s constitutional review recommending the abolition of BCAB, the body that represents around 60,000 chartereds working in business.
Ould revealed he had warned an emergency meeting of BCAB’s management board last month that he would ‘negotiate with CIMA for a free passage for his disadvantaged and disenfranchised members’ should the institute adopt Gerrard’s plan.
However, Andrew Colquhoun, the institute’s chief executive, said Ould was being hasty. No decision would be taken on the Board’s future until the institute’s council had debated Gerrard’s recommendations.
He said: ‘My advice to Mr Ould is to wait for the outcome of the council debate in May.’
Ould claimed he was meeting ‘for a friendly chat with CIMA’ in the next few weeks. Jake Claret, CIMA’s deputy secretary, refused to confirm any meeting, but said: ‘We are open to talk to people about any suggestion they have about how we can work together.’
