Finance Manager – Rochford, Essex

AJ Chambers are extremely proud to be working exclusively, and on pro bono basis with Trust Links, a not-for-profit organisation, who are looking to recruit a Finance Manager based in Rochford, Essex.

Trust Links is a local charity that aims to develop nurturing and supportive environments that develop strong, resilient and health people and communities. It was established by local people to address mental health needs in the Southend area in 2000 and was registered as a charity and limited company in 2002.  We enable people to work together to improve mental health and wellbeing and promote, support, inspire and cultivate wellness and sustainable living.

Remuneration Package:

  • A salary of up to £34,000 pro rata (21 hours per week)
  • Working from home capabilities, as well as travelling to different Trust Links sites
  • Working with a brilliant, well-established non-for-profit organisation

Main Duties:

  • Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will take a strategic overview of the financial situation of Trust Links
  • Review all investments, loans and other financial arrangements, making recommendations on the most efficient use of resources
  • Liaise with accountants in the production of the charity’s Annual Report and Accounts
  • Ensure financial management and reporting is in line with Charity Commission and Companies House guidelines and audit requirements
  • Produce dynamic forecasting system and budgets to allow trustees visibility of financial performance
  • Produce financial returns for CEO, trustees, banks and funders
  • Produce an annual budget and regular financial projections
  • Manage and forecast cashflow
  • Provide financial costing for bids and tenders, in liaison with the CEO
  • Track all expenditure for contracts, projects, and all funding streams, producing reports as required
  • Provide advice and make recommendations for the effective use of resources to CEO and trustees
  • Attend Board and Finance Sub Committees to advise on financial matters
  • Identify ways to minimise expenditure where appropriate
  • Overview of expenditure on Human Resources and making recommendations on
  • Establish and ensure the effective running of internal payroll 
  • Support the Finance Officer in the effective use of QuickBooks
  • Be available to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Ensure appropriate confidentiality of service user and staff information throughout the charity
  • Comply with Trust Links policies and procedures
  • Provide line management supervision, support and development to the Finance Officer
  • Attend Senior Leadership Team meetings and work collaboratively on the development of strategies for the maximum impact and sustainability of the charity as part of the organisation’s senior management
  • Inform the development of the organisation’s Strategy and Business Plan, working with the staff, CEO and trustees to ensure they are fit for purpose from a financial perspective
  • Reporting regularly to the Chief Executive Officer and take responsibility for continuing self-development
  • Undertake any other appropriate duties that may be required which are commensurate with the grade of the post


The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience of working in a complex financial environment, ideally within the in the charity sector
  • Skills and experience in financial analysis and presenting financial information
  • Qualification in financial management and/or accountancy
  • Good level of IT literacy including competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, email and the internet
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work effectively in a busy office environment
  • Welcoming and friendly manner and positive problem-solving approach
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills and accuracy
  • Experience of working with QuickBooks or similar business accounting software
