Director, UK Auditing & Assurance Standards
The Financial Reporting Council (FRC)’s mission is to serve the public interest by setting high standards of corporate governance, reporting and audit and holding to account those responsible for delivering them. We are] [is] the UK Competent Authority for audit. We also set the UK Corporate Governance and Stewardship Codes as well as UK standards for accounting, auditing and actuarial work, and monitor and take action to promote the quality of corporate reporting and operate independent enforcement arrangements for accountants and actuaries. The FRC’s Regulatory Standards Division is responsible for public and technical policy covering accountancy, audit, actuarial work and corporate governance and stewardship, for which we set regulatory codes and standards and develop guidance to drive high quality work in the public interest. The Division also includes the FRC Lab, which encourages high quality reporting through the development of best practice, and innovation more widely, and all of the FRC’s stakeholder engagement and communications work.
The advertised post is to join the divisional leadership team and lead the FRC’s work in developing policy for the respective area.
The Director of UK Auditing and Assurance Standards leads the team responsible for the FRC’s technical and public policy work covering UK auditing standards, the FRC Ethical Standard for Auditors and application guidance in the form of Practice Notes, Bulletins and wider implementation guidance. The Director represents the FRC on audit related technical groups, engages with stakeholders on audit and ethical matters and provides technical advice and input to other FRC teams, the Executive Committee and FRC Board on auditing and ethical matters, and plays a significant part in FRC reform, and wider reform of the audit, corporate reporting and corporate governance landscape. The Director will also provide lead technical input to policy engagement with audit practitioners and the profession more widely.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the commercial, regulatory and other external influences on UK audit policy and the implications for standards and guidance, including domestic and international developments, and a strong appreciation and understanding of the public interest. They will be a CCAB qualified accountant, with experience of audit or related technical support (to at least the level of audit director), and have good knowledge of the auditing, ethical and other assurance standards issued by the IAASB and the FRC and of their practical application (in the corporate and/or public sectors). A track record in developing public policy and for setting standards in the UK, and associated engagement with public stakeholders is also desirable.
The roles are based in our Central London Office. The post holder should be able to work flexibly to support the team’s activities and also provide cover within the FRC as necessary.
