Provide leadership and management of the risk & assurance function, responsible for promoting & facilitating effective risk management and assurance across all areas of the organisation.

Description

Provide highly specialised expert advice and leadership on risk management and matters relating to a wide range of risk and assurance topics.

Work with the Director of Quality and Assurance to design and implement a performance management framework.

Responsible for identifying and recording the risks associated with the implementation of national standards, ensuring these risks are addressed and mitigated as effectively as possible

Advise and assist clinical services and corporate departments in the development of business cases which address achievement of assurance standards that are sustainable

Manage the budget for assurance as an autonomous budget, holder on behalf of the Director

Be responsible for ensuring the Standing financial instructions are met.

Be responsible for all procurement functions in this area, ensuring value for money and relevant contract specification and monitoring.

Make recommendations, provide advice, prepare and present strategic reports/ briefings for the Board, its committees, directorate management teams, and clinical leads as required

Liaise closely with, and support the Corporate Services team, to ensure the Board Assurance Framework has influence from the Trust wide and local risks.

Lead, develop, recommend and implement improvements in team performance, including regular review of team performance covering systems, processes, policies and individual performance.



Profile

Knowledge of health related assurance activity

An in-depth knowledge of risk management

Evidence of training in statistical analysis, compliance or audit

Knowledge of the NHS and interrelated systems

Experience of communicating at Board level

Experience of designing tools and measures for use in compliance activity and audit methodology

Experience of developing policy at organisation wide level with demonstrable experience of consultation mechanism.

Understanding of assessment measures in clinical and non-clinical settings.

Ability to work under pressure and to tight and often changing deadlines

Skills for direct line management and job management.
