A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. A new international airport now offers a weekly scheduled flight from Johannesburg.
The primary objective of the Financial Reporting team is to deliver the annual financial statements for the Government but also to support the review of internal controls and procedures and adherence to Financial Regulations and other relevant legislation. In the absence of the substantive post holder you will lead the delivery of the annual financial reporting programme for the Government and, on your return, provide continuity and support to the Financial Accountant.
You must help prepare the first draft of the 2018/19 Financial Statements for St Helena Government and manage the audit process, after which you will have a technical support role in addressing audit queries or compiling additional working papers until the end of your contract. You will manage the Accounting Services team in the delivery of the entity financial statements of the Government, in compliance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards, and with regard to applicable legislation.
Compiling a comprehensive Audit Work File that underpins the Financial Statements, you will have day to day operation of the Central Asset Register. You will review internal control issues that may arise, including directorate’s adherence to financial procedures and regulations for all payments, receipts and other transactions.
A CCAB qualified accountant with current membership and up to date CPD record, you will have a background in Public Sector organisations and experience in pulling together a year-end audit file, dealing directly with External Auditors. You will also have substantial experience in team management and in producing Financial Statements in accordance with relevant standards, both entity and consolidated accounts.
