Senior Tax Manager - progression to Group CFO
£80,000-100,000 + 50% bonuses

We are currently searching for a global diversified financial company comprising sales, trading and investment management activities. This Company's heritage in exchange-traded derivatives established the firm′s strong presence in the global equity, fixed income and commodity options markets. Privately held with a worldwide span of employees, this business is upon a rapid expansion trajectory, with established offices across London (HQ), wider Europe, APAC and soon the USA.
Considering themselves as much of a technology business as a trading firm, culturally speaking, walking in you may feel that you've been dropped into a tech start-up. The team are of a high social-orientation, regular gym-goers together and big on the pool-table and table-tennis in the day. From a diversity perspective, the teams are approximately a 50:50 split between men and women, with a strong balance at 'Heads of' level.
As a result of their booming trade, the Business is expanding rapidly, having recruited 40 over the last 6 months alone. A newly created (#1 in tax) opportunity has thus become available for a progressive, commercially-focused and detail-oriented tax professional. Due to the highly lucrative nature of the business and heightened regulations from HMRC, the strategic relevance of tax has led the CFO to view this role as succeeding his own in future.
Reporting directly into the CFO, the successful candidate will be a critical hire for the business and key point of contact for various internal/external stakeholders. Responsibilities will feature a large ad-hoc and strategic project element, cross-functionally partnering across teams. The group restructuring has been finalised and completed, with solid processes already in place. The successful candidate will however have the option to adopt a strategic approach to analysing pre-existing processes which can be streamlined to implement change to add value.
Structurally, the numerous entities are transparent from a taxation perspective, affording this role an international focus. Specific tax responsibilities will be broad, all-encompassing and the exact opposite of siloed away from the action. Specific areas include partnership, withholding, indirect, employment, VAT (and special exemptions) and transfer pricing considerations. While VAT is completed in-house, the remaining returns are outsourced. The successful candidate will thus need to be well-versed in compliance matters and take a high-level review/advisory perspective to spot the details that matter and push back to external providers where necessary to add commercial value.
The CFO has approached the search with an open mindset, where financial services experience is not essential. So, in theory you may be within any tax discipline, as the key skill will be to spot tax issues and bring them into the Board. External advisers are used depending on the complexity of issues. You should have a commercial tax mindset and have a good grasp of the interaction of taxes. This would suit anyone from Manager to Director grade that is either ACA, ACCA or CTA qualified.
