Lead the development and implementation of a dynamic organisation-wide digital marketing strategy to promote and protect the Association's profile and reputation and to grow membership, volunteering, fundraising and uptake of welfare services.

Primary responsibilities
  • Lead the digital marketing team and work closely with the supporter marketing team to plan and implement an integrated programme of website, paid digital, social media and content marketing activity
  • Oversee the development of the Association's digital marketing infrastructure (web, organic and paid social, forms and data acquisition infrastructure, shop platform and payment technology), ensuring high-quality, fresh, relevant and engaging content
  • Optimise the user experience and conversion processes and maximise SEO
  • Lead the planning of cost-effective digital advertising campaigns to support membership, volunteering and beneficiary acquisition and fundraising goals
  • Oversee video production and develop innovative future content formats
  • Champion digital marketing and engagement across the organisation (including branches) and provide expertise, advice and leadership
  • Assist in the development and delivery of an organisational marketing and communications plan which supports the Association's strategic/operating plan

Knowledge and experience
  • Drive the future evolution of the Association's digital marketing and engagement strategy by building a network of external contacts, monitoring the rapidly evolving digital landscape, undertaking regular competitor analysis and sector research, investigating ways to improve effectiveness, identifying and implementing new opportunities, anticipating risks and encouraging innovation and improvements
  • Possess a thorough understanding of current legislation (particularly data protection, advertising, media and intellectual property law) and best practice to ensure all activity is fully compliant
  • Maintain a wide-ranging and in-depth knowledge of the Association's work, values and ethos
  • Attend all mandatory training identified by manager or Association
  • Demonstrate a commitment to your own development; take advantage of education and training opportunities and develop your own competence

Communication and relationships
  • Ensure all digital marketing communications activity promotes current messaging, is clear and accessible and conforms in all respects with brand guidelines
  • Communicate using the highest standard of accuracy, clarity and accessibility (written and verbal), tailoring information to different audiences
  • Maintain strong, cooperative working relationships with colleagues throughout the organisation (both co-located and remotely) and external stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with other charities (particularly the four main charities) whenever appropriate
  • Participate in and contribute to team meetings
  • Use all opportunities to raise the profile of the Association and its work

People management
  • Support, develop and motivate the Digital Marketing Officer and Digital Marketing Executive, ensuring they have clear, measurable objectives, appropriate levels of support, supervision and training and their performance is effectively managed
  • Oversee a programme of advice and support for employees and branches to promote the effective use of digital channels

Decision-making and problem-solving
  • Share responsibility for, and actively contribute to, the development, delivery and evaluation of team, departmental and organisational strategies, projects and activities
  • Anticipate, understand, manage and meet stakeholder expectations
  • Achieve excellent time management and ability under pressure to prioritise, deliver, manage and coordinate a number of projects and activities simultaneously to tight timescales
  • Plan, execute and manage marketing campaigns and projects both independently and while leading a wider team, within the overall marketing plan
  • Ensure that all output complies with data protection, media, intellectual property, consents or other relevant legislation, is honestly conveyed, accurate and fair and that no inaccurate, misleading or distorted information or images are used

Financial & physical resources
  • Manage digital suppliers, ensuring cost-effective, high quality service, clear compliance and commitment to our values/goals
  • Manage expenditure budget (c. £100K pa), including multi-year forecasts, KPIs and evaluation and monitoring systems and providing insightful performance reports
  • Process requisitions and invoices in line with Finance department requirements

  • Build a culture of continual improvement, using a data-informed approach that incorporates testing, analysis and reflection to drive an increase in online reach, traffic, engagement and conversion
  • Ensure that the Association's CRM system is used as the central data hub for all activity

and that all supporter interaction is recorded
  • Ensure that data recorded is up-to-date and comprehensive, and adheres to GDPR and other legislative requirements
