Temporary contract to March 2020

The Open University is one of the UK’s most respected national institutions and the market leader in distance higher education. Since it opened to students in 1971, it has been inspiring learning and creating higher educational opportunities to all who wish to realise their ambitions and fulfil their potential, whatever their previous academic attainments. It has demonstrated excellence in research and teaching and confirmed its enormous reach through its use of open educational resources.

The Finance Division is looking for a proactive and self-starting CCAB or CIMA qualified accountant to join our dynamic team, providing support to business development and academic units. This will include the development of management information, processes and systems to support decision making at strategic and operational levels.

In addition to relevant finance related work experience, you will have strong negotiating and communication skills including the ability to engage with, and present solutions to, senior non-finance staff. You must be able to work independently and provide operational and strategic financial direction and leadership and be willing to undertake a diverse and demanding workload.

The University is replacing its finance ledger and supporting systems with a cloud-based solution and embarking on design and implementation of a new Finance shared service centre to support the University. The post holder would be expected to be involved with this project to some degree, either through direct involvement or through enabling existing University staff to be released to work on the project.

This is a challenging but rewarding opportunity for a strongly motivated accountant wanting to contribute to the on-going success of the University.
