Financial Controller

Robert Half are working with a charity based in central Bath that provide a fantastic service to the local community.


The role will be hands on, taking ownership of the day to day operations of the Finance team. The main duties for the Financial Controller include:
  • Ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of transactional accounting
  • Asset management, including the asset register, depreciation calculations, dilapidation provisions and funds for regular renewal
  • Being responsible for the accuracy of the organisation's trial balance, maintenance of the balance sheet, consolidations and financial reporting
  • Setting up annual budgets in conjunction with the organisations budget guidelines
  • Preparing year end forecasts based on actual v budgeted spend
  • Preparing cash flow statements on a monthly basis
  • Liaison with third parties such as the bank
  • Prepare year-end papers in advance of the audit and liaise with the auditors as required by Director of Finance
  • Deputising for the Director of Finance on request


This position will require strong technical knowledge of accounting and a hands on, committed approach. The ideal candidate will have experience in public sector organisations, however the remit is open to individuals from other SME setups and who are also ACCA/ACA/CIMA/CIPFA/AAT qualified or Qualified by Experience.
  • Expert knowledge of accounting for smaller businesses or organisations (budget preparation, forecasting, accurate reporting)
  • Track record of delivering against tight deadlines
  • Clear communicator, excellent writing and presentation skills, delivering clear and concise concepts to diverse audiences
  • Nurturing key relationships and maintaining networks
  • Proven ability to identify risks, anticipate issues and create solutions
  • Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
  • Skills for managing projects ensuring they meet financial targets
  • Professional, calm and efficient manner

Salary & Benefits

£30,000 - £40,000 - 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays, employers pension contribution of 7%
