Assistant Financial Accountant
Deliver management accounts that deliver real insight for an exceptional college.
Formed from the merger of Sussex Coast and Sussex Downs Colleges, East Sussex College Group is a powerful new educational resource that will transform countless futures. We will give the young people of the county the best possible A-levels and technical qualifications, deliver apprenticeships and adult community learning fit for the modern world, and create a highly skilled and adaptable workforce.
Effective financial management will be central to our success – placing you at the heart of everything we do as you join us from the very beginning.
At the heart of our closely-knit finance team, you will assist in the production of draft management accounts for both the College Group and our trading subsidiary Plaza Trading Hastings Limited. This will involve preparing journals, transferring data from Agresso into bespoke spreadsheets and analysing key variances and issues, before passing draft accounts to the Head of Finance for sign-off.
At the same time, you will complete monthly budget-holder finance statements, compile annual statutory accounts, update cash flow forecasts, reconcile balance sheets and undertake investigations, so every day will bring new challenges.
To join us, you should be an experienced and confident accounts professional, with a background in complex organisations with a turnover exceeding £3 million. Naturally, you will be working towards an accounting qualification if you do not already hold AAT status, and you will be fully versed in accounting and data management principles and variance analysis.
Proven experience of preparing management accounts would be extremely useful, as would familiarity with the further education sector, but more importantly you will bring a highly analytical mindset, demonstrable ability to meet strict deadlines, and excellent IT and data management skills.
