Position Summary & Candidate Profile

Reporting within a client portfolio servicing team to a Office Manager / Client Partner the position is responsible for providing accurate, complete and timely Bookkeeping and VAT services for clients and supporting the Client Partners/Accountants to meet account production service levels.

To maintain accurate financial records and help prepare and analyse financial information to assist accountants and client partners.

To support all document management, workflow/centralised emails, telephone and practice administrative assignments across the TaxAssist Accountants office network.

The client base consists of owner managed SME businesses and the associated directors. The activities of client companies are diverse with typical clients having turnovers ranging from £30k to £500k.


General book-keeping duties to include;

  • double entry book-keeping;
  • processing sales invoices;
  • recording receipts and payments
  • preparation of statements showing income and expenditure
  • completing VAT returns
  • preparing wages and processing expenses claims
  • processing and paying invoices
  • preparing and checking ledger balances and other monthly annual accounts
  • monitoring company expenses
  • drafting financial reports
  • helping prepare P&L accounts and balance sheets

Completing and submitting tax returns

Planning and budget control

Communicate and liaise verbally and in writing between clients/visitors/enquirers and staff and interpret and respond clearly and effectively to spoken requests over the phone or in person, and to verbal or written instructions

Manage, organise and update relevant data using database applications

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public

Qualifications & Skills

  • AAT Level 4 or partly qualified ACCA
  • Bookkeeper QBE
  • Preparation of Management Accounts
  • High level bookkeeper with strong double entry bookkeeping skills.
  • Preparation of VAT returns
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to manage and work to own deadlines
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks and other bookkeeping software.
