Our client, a state-of-the-art designer, manufacturer and installer of niche building products is looking to strengthen its current Finance team with a strategic and forward-thinking Finance Director. Based in the outskirts of Leeds, you will report into the Managing Director and take a position on the Main Board.
This role would suit an up-and-coming senior finance professional keen to impress in a fully-fledged Finance Director role and would also suit a more established Finance Director seeking a new challenge.
As well as having leadership of the Finance team (strategic planning, all reporting, operational efficiencies etc), you will also have responsibility for the performance of the Procurement team, which will mean you play a very important part in the commercial aspects of the business, e.g. contract management and risk valuation. In both functions you will mentor and develop your people being seen as a leader rather than as a manager.
There are new systems being implemented (Sage 200 and Equi2, a job-costing system) so experience of systems implementation, evaluation and continuous development would be very advantageous.
Other aspects to the role include:
Providing leadership to the Board's Finance and Accounting strategy in order to optimise the company's financial performance and strategic position. Ensure that the company's financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth.
Contribute fully to the development of the company strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers.
- Form close working relationships with the Managing Director, other Senior Managers and Non-Executives.
- Work with senior management teams to grow the business, formulating strategies and plans.
- Corporate finance: manage company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity, insurance, disposals and acquisitions, as appropriate.
- Establish a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with external parties including customers and advisors.
- Drive the change management as we strive to the alignment of the company's culture, values, people and behaviours to encourage the desired results.
You should, ideally, be ready to step into a statutory Finance Director role, which means you will have the energy and the drive to succeed. You will need to be a hands-on leader capable of getting into the detail and challenging, and interrogating, the figures.
You will (probably) currently be working for a bigger business, but in a divisional or subsidiary capacity and with the significant responsibility for the overall performance of it.
You will be a fully qualified Accountant with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience. You will need to demonstrate your readiness for such a role by demonstrating where you have added value to systems, positively impacting profitability and being a strategic advisor to the Board.
An understanding of the construction and/or manufacturing industries is an advantage, but not essential.
My client is at the forefront of its sector with an excellent reputation and good cash position generating good profit.
