Expedia are looking for an experienced Payroll Operations Manager to join our team here in London. In this role you will coordinate a complex and multi-state payroll function across the EMEA region.

You'll lead a large team of Payroll Analysts based in London and will closely collaborate with our partners in France. You'll report to the Director, EMEA Payroll and HR Operations and will be involved in supporting globally driven process and system transformation projects, and ensuring legal and local compliance for all payrolls.


We're looking for someone with a hands on, dedicated attitude to support day to day operations in the team with excellent payroll knowledge.

You'll become part of the wider HR team, where we pride ourselves in working collaboratively across several departments and sections of the Expedia business. You will be passionate about delivering the highest level of service possible as well as comfortable in working in a highly international environment where no day is the same.


You'll act as team leader and specialist to independently perform a variety of complex duties in the preparation, processing, maintenance and employee support for both on and off-cycle global, multi-company, and multi-state payrolls.


  • Responsible for the collection and validation of payroll inputs, including time entry records, bonus and incentive payments, additional pay items, and deductions.
  • Independently execute and validate bi-weekly gross-to-net pay calculations, ensure the timely and accurate distribution of pay and deductions, and oversee the timing funding of payroll for non-US employees.
  • Train, develop, and supervise the day-to-day activities of payroll specialists.
  • Be subject matter expert in areas relating to complex payroll questions in a global, multi-state, multi-company, CloudPay (currently still legacy vendors like ADP) environment.
  • Provide daily oversight and ensure service levels are met and balanced, repeatable and reliable service is provided to all our partners.
  • Assist management in the creation and monitoring of specific metrics for team, and meet key performance measures.
  • Assist in critical issues and complex cases.
  • Use procedures, policy manuals, knowledge tools, and/or other reference materials to assist in resolving inquiries or issues.
  • Recognize unusual events or consistent problem areas, lookng for ways to reduce and resolve issues that arise.
  • Recommend methods to update, simplify, and/or improve processes and procedures.
  • Perform or participate in special payroll projects requiring research and analysis of payroll.
  • Assist manager with acquisition initiatives relating to payroll and employee integration.
  • Recognize and adhere to proper segregation of duties, Sarbanes-Oxley controls, and internal self-audits.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees.
  • Troubleshoot and work with Payroll Team on all Payroll and HR Status related questions
  • Knowledge of garnishments, child support, etc. as administered by vendors or internal staff.
  • Knowledge of payroll transactions associated with general accounting principles, union contracts, and audit requirements.

  • Shown professional payroll operations and leadership/managerial experience of operational teams in multiple countries in EMEA
  • Certified Payroll Professional designation preferred
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of payroll calculation and processing, knowledge of applicable local, state and federal rules and laws
  • Proven financial acumen
  • Proficiency in relevant payroll and accounting software
  • Collaborating with all payroll partners, regional focal point and report
  • Preferable experience with Workday HR, Payroll, Time and Absence. Experience with CloudPay Payroll
  • Showing pride in payroll, customer focused and professional attitude and sense of urgency to deliver best in class and high quality payroll results
  • Attention to detail, organized, efficient, and able to handle multiple tasks
  • Personable, positive, and enthusiastic attitude with capability to deal effectively with people both internal and external
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, also multi language
  • Deep understanding of programs including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Self-starter, ability to work in a dynamic ever-changing environment
