The Role

Robert Half are working with a leading specialist supplier to the Railway Rolling Stock Market based in Derby, at the heart of the UK rail industry, to recruit a Finance Analyst. With an increasing demand for forecast information arising from business change projects in 2017, the incumbent will need to model the impact of changes to debt cashflows arising from planned refinancing activities and changes across the budget arising from IFRS changes to Revenue Recognition and Leasing. The successful candidate will gather the impact of the changes from other Finance team members and then work with the Finance Business Analyst and the other Finance Analyst to create forecast scenarios, run them through the established finance models and then assess and communicate the impacts to the Financial Controller and the Finance Director.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Finance Business Analyst in the creation and analysis of forecast scenarios
  • Tracking the changes to the key budget assumptions relating to the portfolio of assets held by the group
  • Assisting the business when assessing new business opportunities through rigorous calculation of investment return metrics
  • Identify with the Finance Business Analyst the changes required to be modelled.
  • Maintain clear documentation of the changes made, the reasons for them and supporting documentation (e.g. new customer offers or revised financing agreements etc.)
  • Ensure a clear audit trail from the current forecast to the resulting scenarios prepared.
  • Analyse the changes to the forecast against expectations to ensure that they are calculated correctly.
  • Prepare clear summaries of the revised scenarios, including the changes modelled and the impact on the key financial indicators for the Financial Controller and Finance Director.
  • Assist the Finance Business Analyst in the routine Budget and forecast preparation as required.
  • Work with other members of Finance and the wider business to prepare analysis of new business scenarios, changes to accounting standards and other ad-hoc modelling.

Your profile

The successful candidate will be qualified and educated preferably to degree level. You will need to possess exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. Ideally experience of working in engineering or manufacturing will be advantageous in this role however it is vital that you are a self-starter who has lots of initiative and possess a strong work ethic, always striving for success.

You will need the following

  • Accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and preferably degree educated
  • Experience of budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
  • Competency in use of Microsoft Office suite of products, with a particular emphasis on using Excel for business modelling
  • Working knowledge of UK corporation tax and IFRS; corporate finance experience would be advantageous but not essential
  • Strong interpersonal skills: an effective communicator with finance and non-finance staff
  • Confident, conscientious, self-starter, able to use initiative to analyse and solve problems
  • Strong organisation and time management skills, with a proven ability to prioritise and manage workloads in a demanding environment

Salary & Benefits

  • £40000 - £45000 per annum depending on experience.
