Putting good governance at the heart of the Council

In financially challenging times the council is undergoing widespread service reconfiguration and change.  Those changes are underpinned by high quality governance arrangements which marry service delivery, integrity and strong internal controls.

The council believes that those governance arrangements depend upon clear and effective communication and a constructive approach.  As well as giving assurance on existing procedures, the skills and opinions of our Internal Audit team are highly valued and there is demand for auditors to help design modern internal controls and to proactively contribute to major service change.

The Council is looking for someone who can take this and develop this approach still further.  We are seeking a leader with significant management skills and audit experience gained across the public or private sector who can help the Internal Audit service build on its existing success. Possessing strong communication and interpersonal skills, our successful candidate will have the capability to modernise practice within the team whilst helping the Council to safely deliver transformation. Proven use of modern practices such as computer assisted audit techniques and control risk self-assessments will be highly desirable whilst sophisticated tact and diplomacy skills are essential.

Candidates will be a CCAB qualified Accountant (CIPFA, CA, ACCA), or a qualified Member of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CMIIA).

Interviews will be held on 26 July 2017
