Financial Controller (ACCA / CIMA / ACA)

Position: Finance Controller

Location: Thames Valley

Salary: : £55-65k + <5k performance bonus


The Financial Controller role is of strategic importance to the business - working closely with regional managing directors and the group finance director to ensure commercial rigour is applied to the business and that financial processes are fit for current and future purpose; giving advice on best practice and working with management colleagues to develop the department and it's systems to provide a solid base and an expandable platform. This means you will help introduce new systems, procedures, software and reporting and improve overall efficiency and adherence to best practice.


a) The FC will utilise and help to develop systems to ensure the accurate and efficient planning, recording and reporting of resource utilisation

b) Manage transactional accounting processes for the different regions. This will include Purchase/sales ledger, Contractor payments/invoicing, Credit Control, Staff payroll, VAT returns.

c) Provide relevant and timely reporting & controls: Monthly management accounts, cash flow reporting, production of spreadsheets, balance sheet reconciliation, Preparation of end of year files and develop systems to ensure accurate planning, recording and reporting.

d) Make effective contributions to planning and forecasts.

e) Work closely with the sales function and other key players to maximise the company’s profitability and drive the business forward

f) Make constructive challenges to ensure the best balance is struck between growth, profitability and sustainability.

g) Provide effective leadership and management to the team by coaching, supporting and developing direct reports to maximise effectiveness together with managing team performance, dealing with any problems.


a) A Qualified Accountant holding any of the following: ACCA, CIMA or ACA.

b) Candidates must have previous experience of working in a similar position within an SME environment.

c) Experience of working within a people services business environment e.g. IT Services, Staffiing services, consulting or professional services.

d) Project accounting experience.

e) Familiarity with the way in which professional services are planned, costed and controlled through efficient systems and processes

f) Strong proficiency in Microsoft applications: Excel, Word and Outlook.

g) Commercially minded with the business performance in mind.

h) Strong written and verbal communication skills.

i) Confident with a track record of influencing decision makers.

j) You will possess strong organisation, teamwork and leadership skills.


a) Experience of systems implementations/enhancements.

b) Experience with factoring solutions.

c) Experience of year end file preparation and reconciliation for presentation to auditors.
