The Audit Commission has appointed a regional director for the north of England
In his new role as regional director at the
Audit
Commission, Mark Fletcher will lead a team of 500, who works with public
bodies across the England’s northern region to ensure taxpayers’ money is spent
effectively.
Fletcher has worked with the commission before – as a performance specialist
in the south of England from 1990 to 1994. Most recently he was a partner at
Grant Thornton.
Before that, he was with Robson Rhodes before that firm’s merger with Grant
Thornton in 1994. During that time, he worked closely with the Audit Commission,
leading a national study on procurement in NHS trusts and the delivery of more
than 20 service inspections under contract to the commission.
‘We’re here to help raise the standards of financial management, challenge
public bodies to deliver better value for money, and promote high standards of
governance and accountability,’ he told
Northern
Housing. ‘We also have a role in encouraging the continual improvement of
public services in the north to meet the changing needs of our diverse
communities.’
