Professional audit accreditation first for Wales
University of Glamorgan becomes first Welsh institution to receive IIA accreditation
The University of Glamorgan has become the first institution in Wales to be
accredited by the institute of internal auditors.
From September, the university business school’s accountancy department will
be able to deliver professional qualifications approved by the IIA.
The internal audit qualification is split into two stages – PIIA and MIIA.
The PIIA course is aimed at full-time employees working in an internal audit
role of a private or public sector organisation, while MIIA will target
experienced or senior-level internal auditors and be launched in 2006.
In a statement the university said it hoped that the course would attract
students from a ‘range of public and private employers across Wales and the
southwest’.
The IIA promotes, represents and develops the professional practise of
internal auditing. It boasts 6,900 members in the UK and Ireland and 97,000
worldwide.
Jonathan Evans, IIA course director at the university said: ‘This is an
excellent achievement for us to be the only business school in Wales offering
this accreditation.
‘We hope that local companies and organisations will take advantage of this
and ensure that their employees achieve this important qualification.’
