The headline is misleading and unnecessarily paints a negative picture of the island. The key fact is that the Isle of Man will not be appearing on any so-called ‘blacklist’, and the reader is only told this in the penultimate paragraph.
Those with no knowledge of the true position will, from the headline and opening paragraph, conclude that the Isle of Man continues to be part of the apparently murky, offshore underworld. There are many positives that could have been drawn to attention – from Andrew Edwards’ comments, through to the confidence expressed in the island by the Financial Action Task Force, and even the FBI which has congratulated the island on its financial regulation and cooperative approach. We are fighting hard to put our house in order, please try to convey the correct message to readers.
