Avon accountant calling...

News from Canada that Avon representatives will start selling accountancy services with their lipstick and beauty potions may seem like one of those frivolous yet entertaining stories.

But there is a serious issue here about how you sell your services. With the growth of self-assessment and more people encouraged to set up their own businesses, more people are finding themselves in need of an accountant.

But to many, the world of accountancy is strange and faceless. A personal recommendation from a familiar face is very likely to be used in such circumstances.

Avon says it has no current plans to introduce such services in the UK, but if anyone does embrace the concept on this side of the Atlantic, they could find that they have discovered a valuable new outlet for accountancy services.
