Coopers’ past master.

PwC people must be getting tired of their firm’s name being dragged through the mud for past misdemeanours. There’s the Maxwell fallout, a DTI reprimand and the Joint Disciplinary Board still has several issues involving Coopers & Lybrand tabled.

Such has been the strain that when the make-up of the new Accountancy Foundation boards was announced recently, TS was wondering whether the Big Five firm had resorted to alternative tactics.

Chris Laine, former senior partner at Coopers is on the new Investigation and Disciplinary Board – the body that will replace the much disliked JDS.

Is that the sound of Chinese walls being erected?
